What is Changing:
The BR-MOD-1-9 and SA-MOD-1-9 product families are undergoing a revision change from Revision A to
Revision B to account for substantial feature additions and reliability improvements. Revision A (current)
products will be discontinued once Revision B is released. The new revision is backwards compatible with
current products. No changes will be required regarding hardware or software for existing customers.

Overview of Change(s):
1) Adding serial ports for control and data streaming
2) Adding text-based protocol
3) Adding web-based GUI
4) Adding 100 HZ update rate for beacon receiver
5) Adding USB for control
6) Adding enhanced GPIO, serial, and analog output protection
7) Adding enhanced ESD protection
8) Adding extended DC power range of 8V – 33V with enhanced reverse power protection and enhanced over-voltage protection
9) Miscellaneous bug fixes

Nature of Change:

Serial Ports/Text-Based Protocol:
Serial ports have been added as well as software for operating the serial ports. The serial port connector is
a 9-pin Molex connector located in previously unused space on the module. The serial port is either RS-232 or RS-422 based on a select line on the serial port connector. The baud rate is fixed at 115,200.
A text-based protocol has been added for use over the serial ports and the new USB port. The text-based
protocol provides a simpler interface that is easier to use when integrating with resource constrained
systems without an operating system which often doesn’t support dynamic memory allocation, floating
point processors, and/or Ethernet which are required for the standard binary API.

Web-Based GUI:
A web-based GUI that supports both the spectrum analyzer and beacon receiver function has been added. The only requirement to use this feature is that the user has a web browser connected to the module IP address.

Faster BR Update Rate:
A faster BR update rate of 100HZ has been added. The rate options are now 10HZ, 25HZ, and 100HZ. The
faster rate is useful for fast moving antennas or SOTM applications. Combined with the option to track raw power with low lag it can be useful for LEO and MEO tracking.

USB Port:
A USB port has been added. The primary motivation for this change is to make setting the IP address
simpler. The port is also useful for debugging or pre-sale evaluation. In both cases the port facilitates fast
and frustration-free connection to the Avcom GUI. The port supports the current binary API protocol as
well as the new text-based protocol.

Enhanced GPIO and analog Protection:
Improved protection for overvoltage, overcurrent, and ESD has been added to GPIOs and the beacon
receiver analog output.

Enhanced RF ESD Protection:
The RF input ESD protection has been improved to handle higher ESD voltage spikes.

Enhanced DC Power Input:
The DC power input has been improved to handle a wider input voltage and better handle erroneous
misconnection cases:

  • Extended voltage range to 8V – 33V
  • Improved reverse voltage protection
  • Improved over-voltage protection

    Impact of Change to Customer:
  • No hardware or software changes are required. Revision B is Form, Fit, and Function compatible
    with Revision A

    API Changes:
  • None

    Pin Assignment Changes:
  • None
